I am a native of upstate NY who enjoys driving on alternatives to the Thruway.Ī visit on the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend found Westfield, NY hopping with thousands of visitors. I have been visiting this winery since 1968. Not one of us bought any wine from there. The tasting itself though was very underwhelming, the wine pouring for each tasting was the smallest amount I have ever seen, barely enough for me to even get a good taste of it to determine if I wanted to buy any. She just couldn't drink at this one winery which was fine, but it was really annoying bc they went on and on about everybody being carded, but they singled her out for the ID, and then 3 of us in the group (we had 8 people) didn't even get carded! The actual tasting experience was okay. She had other forms of ID, a picture of her license, and a boating license on her, and none of those options were acceptable to use. If you just looked at her, you could tell she was obviously over 21 (we are all in our late 30s/early 40s). ![]() I 100% understand why they are asking for everyone's ID, but it's still annoying that they couldn't put some critical thinking into it. It started off badly bc one girl in our group lost her ID. Most of their wines are sweeter, fruit essence wines which we prefer. We tasted approximately 10 different wines, all of which were very good. Pretzels, cheese and crackers were provided on the tables. After a brief but very informative tour of the production area we went back to our seats at our tables for the tasting. They offer refills and my husband tried the strawberry, which was also delicious. We had a Sangria one and a Tropical one and they were both delicious. The wine slushy that you get while you are waiting for the tour to begin is wonderful. The inside of the building itself, particularly the production area, is spotless and they are very into recycling which we appreciated. Their winery is in a warehouse-type building, with little atmosphere inside but that did not take away from our experience. We had a delightful time at their facility. Although the first impression of the outside of the building leaves much to be desired, don't let this deter you. We visited the Shelalara Winery recently with a groupon.
